Ocean Safari
Aboard “Ice Blue” — Yacoob Yachts, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town
Overview
Our Ocean Safari is a game drive on the water. Departing from the V&A Waterfront, you cruise the Atlantic Seaboard aboard Ice Blue — our Bayliner, a stable and comfortable platform for up to 12 guests — taking in Table Mountain, the Twelve Apostles and the coastline at Sea Point
Along the way we search for Cape Town’s Marine Big 5 — whales, dolphins, seals, penguins and the elusive sunfish — as well as the prolific pelagic birdlife of Table Bay. Through education and appreciation of the marine environment, we aim to encourage marine conservation.
The Experience
On arrival you are met by our crew and complete the necessary paperwork. The experience begins with an informative safety and marine life briefing, after which you board Ice Blue and head out of the harbour. From there you enjoy a 1 to 1.5 hour cruise along the coastline, with the skipper and guide keeping a close watch for marine life.

Weather
Cape Town’s weather changes daily throughout the year. The safety of our guests is our top priority and we assess sea conditions continuously to determine the most favourable days and times. Any change to your booking will be communicated with as much notice as possible, so we strongly advise allowing flexibility in your plans for this trip.
Route
No two safaris are quite the same. We never use bait or any other means to attract the marine life, so every sighting is a genuine wild encounter, the animals are seen on their own terms, in their natural habitat, on open and untamed water. Our skipper and guide have spent years reading this bay, and they know how the patterns of the ocean, the weather, the light and the tides come together to put you in the right place at the right time.
The quietest hours are often the best: before the city stirs and the traffic builds on the water, the bay belongs to the wildlife.
For that reason, the route is never fixed. Some days we hug the shoreline past Sea Point, on others we head further out to where the activity is. Sightings can never be guaranteed, but the search is half the adventure, and the views of Table Mountain and the Twelve Apostles from the water are a certainty. The final call always rests with the skipper and is weather dependent, with the safety and comfort of our guests the deciding factor.
Please note: Marine life sightings are never guaranteed. Our safaris take place in a wild, open ocean environment and the animals are free roaming, so we cannot promise a sighting of any species. No refunds are offered where marine life is not seen.
